On Instigation
While in New York the other week, I attended Nile Harris’ this house is not a home at Abrons Art Center; I also participated in mayfield brooks’ MELT intensive at Movement Research, focused on atunement, play, and their Improvising While Black work.
In the coming posts, I am going to break down the experience of a week of mayfield’s post-human (or perhaps anhuman) investigations into black and postcolonial futurities and worldmaking, alongside Harris’ black-on-black solar flares. Spoiler, I found this house is not a home occasionally captivating but mostly frustratingly heavy-handed. This is not a review, nor an objective analysis. This is me trying to make sense of an apparent abundance of embodied and performative approaches to black livingness.
